Vans introduces “Be Here,” an interactive campaign that allows potentially millions of young people from around the world to share their image along with thoughts, hopes and personal messages with a global audience via the vans.com/behere website with the best submissions getting live airtime on a giant video screen at New York City’s iconic Times Square. During this holiday season, from December 15 until January 5, participants can submit messages and photos by logging on to vans.com/behere or by emailing behere@vans.com. U.S. residents can also send texts to @vans + message to 87884. The cross-channel campaign runs on a place-based social media distribution platform built by LocaModa, Inc.

“As 2009 comes to a close, this is a truly unique opportunity for Vans to share the thoughts of potentially millions of young people in an original and expressive way,” said Doug Palladini, Vans Vice President of Marketing. “Vans is opening a window into the minds of global youth culture via the screen in Times Square to share individual creative expression, a cornerstone of the Vans brand.”

While every appropriate message will appear on the vans.com/behere site, the best submissions and accompanying images will be run in almost real time on a massive live video screen in Times Square during ten minutes of special Vans programming each hour, 24 hours per day. Vans Team Rider Hana Beaman took 1st place at the 2009 Copper Grand Prix Progression Session over the weekend to close out the first major contest of the season. After all the halfpipe riding was done, Paul Mitchell put on a unique exhibition-style contest to do something a little different: a gap jump over or onto a flat ledge that had another big gap drop with a flat rail down below. An interesting set up to say the least, and we're glad Hana pulled out the victory. Check out more photos of this unique set up over at Snowboarder Magazine's Website.

The Vans team certainly gets a lot of love over the pond, as we see the 4th cover shot this season from one of the crew. YES, IT'S TRUE... ANDREAS WIIG IS ON FORUM!

12/1/09

Last month, Europe Snowboard Magazine Whitelines reported inside sources had revealed that Vans Team Rider Andreas Wiig was leaving Nitro to ride for Forum. Today, Forum confirmed the rumors and announced on their website that indeed Andreas is making the switch to the Big "F". Andreas will be riding the new boards when he competes in the Billabong Air and Style Contest in Innsbruck, Austria this weekend with fellow Forum rider Pat Moore, among some of the other world's best snowboarders. Forum had this to say about this big-time acquisition of the Norwegian powerhouse...

The rumors are true. As winter has arrived, so has Norwegian phenom Andreas Wiig to Forum’s pro team. Joining Peter Line, Eddie Wall, Pat Moore, Jake Welch, Stevie Bell, John Jackson, Nic Sauve and Daniel Ek, Andreas is set to give it 110% this season. Whether riding the park, at a slopestyle event or filming in the backcountry, Wiig continually pushes his limits.

“It’s an honor to be part of such a talented and progressive team, a team that is setting the standard in snowboarding today,” says Wiig. “I already know most of the guys on the team and I’m looking forward to riding with them. It’s going to be good times.”
