Torrey from The Machine checked in with an update from Denver today, where the SIA (SnowSports Industry) Tradeshow is going on this weekend. The I AM Snowboarding exhibit is on display at The Yard inside the convention center.
"Because we had a small amount of space in both Denver and Aspen, all the originals are still on display at Studio NEMO in Portland and will be there until the end of this week. Next week they will be packed up and sent over to TOKYO!!! Stay tuned for details on the Japan show which starts Feb 23rd
In Denver we have four images at the SIA show in The Yard representing the exhibit. You may have seen The Yard at previous SIA shows... but for those of you who haven't (like me), it's a really great set up of shipping containers on the tradeshow floor that create a mini-city for great people like us, POW, TransWorld Snowboarding, etc. Many thanks to Mike Styskal and Dave Wray.
In Aspen, Travis Rice and Mike Parillo have set up an ASYMBOL gallery space across from the gondola for the weekend of Winter X. They are showcasing six prints from the I AM show and those will be for sale. And check out www.asymbolgallery.com. It's alive and beautiful. There is a special link to the I AM SNOWBOARDING exhibit on the home page."
Thanks to Torrey for the update and stay tuned for more SIA/X Games coverage on VansSnow.com.

Breaking News: Vans Team Riders Iouri Podlachikov and Markus Keller (pictured above) have secured their spots on the Swiss Olympic Team. Good luck in Vancouver boys...
Markus also nabbed the cover of not one, but two magazine's this month! Pleasure Mag in Europe and Snowboarder Magazine in the states both decided that this unique angle of Markus busting out a handplant was too good to pass up. Congratulations to Markus for his outstanding season so far.
At the beginning of the new year, Keystone Resort awarded one lucky rider an all-expenses paid trip to ride the A51 Terrain Park with Andreas Wiig from a written submission entry. That lucky rider was Cody Taylor, and here’s a little video of his day with the Viking ruler of snow.
When Vans Team Rider Zac Marben is not jamming out on his acoustic guitar and looking like a folk music singer/songwriter hero from 1969, he's listening to his iPod and dreaming of a land far, far away. Lucky for you, Transworld Snowboarding caught up with Zac to see what his favorite tunes are as of late. Zac's kinda a strange fellow, so don't expect to find any Drake or Weezy up in those ear buds. Trusty European Vans TM Thomas Becka came through with some photos from last weekend's Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland, where IPod (pictured above) racked up another podium finish. He came in 3rd in the halfpipe finals, as well as a strong 9th place in the slopestyle finals. Thomas broke it down for us:
"Apart from IPod, Markus Keller (pictured below) was among the favorites for the pipe title after placing second at the semi finals with huge airs and smooth riding like always. Things changed for the bad though for Markus as he caught an edge during the last training run for the finals and knocked himself unconscious, leaving the whole crowd plus the other riders in shock."
The Vans Fam sends our well wishes to Markus and we hope he's back in action very soon. Shout out to Thomas, Markus, IPod, Arthur, Cheryl and all our people in Europe. For more info on the contest, plus videos and photos, check out www.opensnowboarding.com.

Our social networking super star Andreas Wiig has been a busy man lately, bouncing back and forth across the Atlantic to keep up with his jam packed schedule. It's seems every other week there's a Dew Tour here or a big air there—even we have a hard time keeping track of him! Luckily, he's got a twitter account that we can follow, keeping us up-to-date on all his latest haps. Like the contest where one lucky rider won an all expenses paid trip to Keystone Resort to ride the A51 Terrain Park with Andreas. Well, the two spent last Monday lapping it up and looking for powder, while Andreas tweeted from the lifts. Then it was a live chat yesterday with @allisports, producers of the Winter Dew Tour that starts up once again today with The Wendy's Invitational in Snowbasin, Utah. Andreas is competing in the Slopestyle Prelims today, so good luck buddy! We'll follow your tweets to see how it goes...

Here's some more news from Europe from the final day of the Swatch TTR 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam Europe Snowboard Competition in Saalbach Hinterglemm, Austria last weekend. The video below features the winning runs by Kjersti Ostgaard Buaas, Vans' own Cheryl Maas and the young Enni Rukajärv from Finland who took first place.
With her second place podium spot, Cheryl is also now second in the TTR World rankings, and she's trailing for number one behind current leader Sarka Pancochova by just a few points. "There are still so many comps to be done…there are a lot of people hunting for that spot," admits Cheryl.

Vans Europe Team Manager Thomas Eberharter sent over some shots of the homies in Mayrhofen, Austria over the weekend, while they were on a shred mission to celebrate the opening of the Vans Penken Park for 2010. Above is Tyler Chorlton, and below Kalle Ohlson sending it off the roof of this house, lodge, chalet thingy. Good job boys...
The latest stop of I AM Snowboarding Art Show made it's way to Portland, Oregon last Friday, with a live performance from Vans' own Jamie Lynn (pictured above) and his band KandiCoded. All kinds of Northwest shred heads turned out to support the show which benefits the JLA Memorial Fund, and controversial blogger extraordinaire Brooke Geery covered the event on her site www.yobeat.com... click the the link for plenty more photos. Thanks to everyone who turned out and stay tuned for more info on the next stop of the tour
Davos, Switzerland - Iouri Podladtchikov has taken victory in a spectacular halfpipe final at the O’Neill Evolution in Davos.
“I feel better now than I did at the end of my run,” said Iouri on receiving his prize money.
Despite nailing a run of a frontside 540, backside 900, frontside 1080 and a cab double cork 1080, Iouri arrived at the bottom of the halfpipe in frustration.
“I was so angry. I think I was still really angry from screwing up my first and second run, that I didn’t really realise that I had just landed that third run,” he said. “It was kind of special that I took all my stuff off angrily and then saw my score.”
His score of 91.33 was more than deserved, and with it he pushed fellow Swiss countryman Markus Keller into second position.
However, Markus was the winner of the Swatch Highest Air prize of $5,000 for his 4.2m defiance of gravity.
“The scary part is actually the in-run,” said Markus. “The part in the air is actually the part where you get to enjoy it! I was first trying an air to fakie,” he said. “but after all the other riders started to go for a highest air as well I had to change to a frontside air.”
Rounding off the top three is last year’s Swatch TTR World Champion as well as last year’s O’Neill Evolution quarterpipe winner, Peetu Piiroinen.

Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood is proud to name Vans its official terrain park sponsor. Besides the traditional media plays and park branding, Vans will be an active participant in the resort producing on-hill events such as jib contests, product demos and team rider appearances. Also look for a signature Vans terrain feature in 2010.
Says John McColly, Director of Marketing, “I’m stoked to see this collaboration finally come together. The synergies are great and it’s something we’ve been working on for a while.”
While collaborations between Vans and Mountain High go back to the late 1990’s, only recently have the two combined forces to flex their collective marketing efforts. Co-branding is taking place at the mountain and at Vans outlets throughout Southern California, and social media campaigns have been developed to fuel Vans-themed sales events. Monthly on-hill competitions called Jib City Nights will also drive guests to the resort with music, barbecues and giveaways.
As part of the sponsorship, all Mountain High Terrain Park employees will be fitted with Vans boots and, as owners of Pro-tec helmets, Vans has also capped the crew with custom Mountain High head gear to promote and encourage mountain safety.
“All of us at Vans are very excited about the partnership with Mountain High. They have done a great job promoting their park and we have some awesome events lined up for the winter season,” said Peter Dericks, Vans Marketing Director
One of the most original events in snowboarding and art is coming to Portland. I AM SNOWBOARDING, a collaborative art project in honor of Jeff Anderson, opens at the NEMO gallery (1875 SE Belmont), on Friday, January 8. The opening party is slated from 6-10pm and will feature collaborative art from snowboard photographers and artists, music from Kandi Coded and DJ Joelskool, raffles from the sponsors (Volcom, Vans, Lib Tech, etc.) and if that wasn't enough, Terry Kidwell will be on hand showing off some of his original snowboards soon to be put up for auction.
If you can't make the opening night party, the artwork will still be on display until Jan. 31 to peruse at your leisure. For more information and to buy prints to benefit the Jeff L. Anderson Memorial Fund and The Brothers Skate Park, visit www.iamjla.org
